Agneepath Is Biggest-Ever Opener

It was billed as the highest-ever first-day grosser of all time and it more than lived up to expectations. Agneepath, directed by Karan Malhotra and starring Hrithik-Roshan and Sanjay Dutt, grossed a whopping Rs 23 crore plus across India on its opening day, ahead of last year’s Bodyguard, whose first-day collections were pegged at Rs 21.50 crore. Now, with a four-day weekend ahead, tradewallahs expect the film to be a mega-blockbuster.

In Mumbai, Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines says, “Agneepath received an outstanding response. In Mumbai, its first-day collections are Rs 8.5 crore while all-India, they are close to Rs 25 crore. The film’s four-day weekend collections will be huge. Today too, also all the shows are almost housefull.”

In Delhi, Sanjay Ghai of Mukta Arts says the film took a tremendous opening in the Delhi-UP circuit. “Its first-day collections here are Rs 4 crore plus and the film has received an overwhelming response today as well.”

In Punjab, Surendra Saluja of Lakshya Movies says the film’s fist-day collections in East Punjab were Rs 1.58 crore. “Occupancy is around 90 per cent. It’s a classic film and the response is outstanding.”

In West Bengal, Sunit Singh of Aum Moviez adds, “Its first-day collections here were Rs 1.05 crore. The shows are 95 per cent full. Also, In Bangalore, the film collected Rs 1.3 crore. Since tomorrow too is a holiday in West Benal, we are expecting the film to do even more business.”

In CP, Sarang Chandak of Shri Rang Films says business on day one in the region was Rs 1.3 crore. “All the shows were housefull yesterday. However, there has been a slight drop in the morning shows today.”

In CI, Aditya Choksey of Morya Arts says first-day collections for Agneepath were Rs 88 lakh in the territory while in Rajasthan, they were over Rs 1 crore. Sunil Bansal of Yash Raj Jai Pictures in Rajasthan remarks, All the shows were housefull yesterday in the territory but collections have dropped a little today.”

In Orissa, Jeetu Khandelwal of Pioneers Movies says Agneepath’s collected Rs 24 lakh on day one in the region. “People have welcomed the film with open arms.”

In Gujarat, Ajay Bagbai of Rajvi Trade Links says, “The first-day business of Agneepath was excellent. All-India, the film earned more than Rs 24 crore while in Gujarat, collections were pegged at Rs 2.5 crore.”
