This week, the box office counters were graced with the highly-anticipated release, Barfi!. The film, which features Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz, has the cash registers ringing after taking an opening of 70 per cent across territories at multiplexes. Kapoor, who enthralled audiences with Rockstar, has once again impressed movie-goers. There were two other releases today – The Lost Tape and Jeena Hai Toh Thok Daal. Both films were duds at the ticket counters.
In Mumbai, Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines says, “Barfi! is a very good film and everyone is praising it. The film’s opening is 60-70 per cent, all-India and in Mumbai. During the course of today, I expect full houses as the movie is gaining momentum with word of mouth. Being a family film, Barfi! is expected to enjoy a tremendous weekend too.”
In East Punjab, Surendra Saluja of Lakshya Movies adds, “Opening collections of Barfi! are around 80 per cent. The film is good, and everyone loves Ranbir and Priyanka’s performances. We expected the film to take a good opening but it has fared better than we expected.”
Barfi! has done even better in West Bengal, where Debashish Dey of Aum Moviez reveals that the film opened to an amazing 98 per cent. “Audiences started praising the film during the intermission itself. The first day and first weekend collections are going to be impressive. Yes, this is a sure-shot hit.”
In CP, Sarang Chandak of Shri Rang Films agrees. “The film has received an overwhelming response. Its opening is around 80 per cent in CP. With the release of the trailers itself, it was expected to have a smooth ride at the ticket counters. The response is overpowering.”
