Salman Khan’s Eid release Bodyguard has outshone all the other films released this week. Not only has the film taken a mind-blowing opening – it is being dubbed as the biggest-ever opening of any film so far – some distributors say the film will also clock the best first-day collections across the country.
Bodyguard has distributors in UP and Bihar on top of the world. Abhay Sinha of Yafhi Films says, “Bodyguard has had an excellent opening and, on its first day, has recorded the highest-ever opening for any film. Thanks to the extended Eid holiday, the film will cross the Rs 18-crore mark, all-India, on day one.
According to distributors in Rajasthan, the film is a super-hit. Vasudev Chahcan of Sunny Films remarks, “The film is expected to do business worth Rs 3 crore in its first three days in the Rajasthan territory but it is difficult to predict its first-day collections. The Eid holiday will definitely add to the kitty.”
In Mysore, morning shows of the film were cancelled due to Eid. Since most Muslims were offering prayers, multiplexes registered few footfalls, leading to cancellation of most shows. There were only two shows – noon and evening.
B H Basha of Bahar Enterprises avers, “The film has had a terrific opening and generated opening business of Rs 30 lakh in the Mysore territory. The first-day collection of the film can even reach Rs 4.5-5 crore. Tomorrow, it could cross Rs 10 crore.”
In Delhi too, distributors were jubilant. G D Mehta of Bobby Arts International says, “Bodyguard has had a powerful opening but it is very difficult to estimate the first-day collections of the film. As of now, even Singham is running in a few places. So only time will tell how much Bodyguard will make on its first day.” But, he says, the film’s music is not as good as some of Khan’s other hits, although that has not stopped audiences from appreciating the film.
In Mumbai, Ramesh Sippy of BRA Enterprises says, “All told, the film is expected to clock Rs 80- 100 crore, all-India. “But I cannot comment on how much the film will earn on its first day. I am not disputing the fact that it is a hit but no one can predict whether the film will make Rs 12 crore, Rs 15 crore or Rs 18 crore on its first day.”
