Take One

BOI Welcomes BO

An alliance between someone who is over 92 years old, and someone who just celebrated their second anniversary a few months ago would seem an unlikely one. More so, if they are separated by a physical distance of almost 13,000 kilometers.

However, a shared commitment to quality, credibility and, above all, a passion for the magic of the movies, can bridge the widest of apparent gaps of geography and generations. And it also helps if the two parties happen to have similar names!

This week, we are delighted to announce the launch of our alliance with Boxoffice Magazine, published by Boxoffice LLC, New York. Boxoffice has been publishing continuously since 1920 and were the first to report box office numbers in 1937. It is also the official magazine of NATO, the US-based National Association of Theatre Owners.

Starting with this week’s edition, our collaboration with Boxoffice Magazine will give you a first-hand insight into all that’s happening in the North American market, with a special emphasis on news, collections, trends and developments of special relevance to us in India.

The United States is both an important overseas market for our films, as also a source of film, television and home video content for our trade. It is also our largest partner for products, technologies and services in our exhibition and post-production spaces. With the US being the largest film industry in the world in revenue terms, and India the largest industry in terms of the number of films produced, it is essential that there be a constant two-way exchange of thoughts, ideas and information between the two film fraternities.

With the launch of an expanded and dedicated Hollywood section powered by Boxofffice, our aim is to further increase the scope and depth of our content offering for you, dear reader. We are also confident that, with time, our alliance with Boxoffice will serve as an important conduit to strengthen and deepen ties between the film ecosystems in the United States and India.

All of us at Box Office India would like to extend a hearty welcome to CEO and Publisher Peter Cane, Editor Phil Contrino, and the rest of the team at Boxoffice.

As with everything we do, this initiative too is a constant work-in-progress and all of us at Box Office India – as indeed our new friends at Boxoffice – would love to hear from you on how you found the new section and what more you would like to see in it.

Happy reading!
