It’s all about the money, dearies! That’s what any filmwallah, down the food chain, will tell you. After all, isn’t the ultimate goal of any filmmaking venture the product’s profitability? You see, the greater the profits, the greater the investments to keep churning out celluloid dreams, right?
Now the exhibition space – cinema halls – is vital to the profits a film brings in. Not surprisingly, with every big release and every passing week, more and more movie halls (singleplex and multiplex) are being opened. And along with that, the touchy issue of ticket prices.
But it’s NOT all about the money, honey. In the race to crunch cold cash, we often fail to gauge the number of people who watch the films we make. We, at Box Office India, decided to attempt this.
So we pushed the envelope and came up with the numbers. We present the 15 multiplex chains in India and the Top Ten movies of the year (in terms of footfalls) in the first and second weeks after their release.
PS: If you look closely, you will realise a hidden fact. But we shall reveal that vital detail in our issue next week. Till then, keep guessing! Though no prizes for the correct answers do write into us at nitin@boxofficeindia.co.in or vajir@boxofficeindia.co.in and tell us if you nailed it!
