The box office was choc a bloc with three big releases this week. Aamir Khan Production’s Delhi Belly featuring Imran Khan, Vir Das and Kunal Roy Kapur and AB Corp and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures’ Bbuddah…Hoga Terra Baap featuring Amitabh Bachchan. The third release was Hollywood popular sci fi action thriller Transformers 3D, which is another film distributed by Viacom 18 in India too.
Out of the three films released this week, Delhi Belly took a better opening but the audience reports have been mixed and most of the tradewallahs believe that there will be a slump in the collection; coming in second is Transformers 3D. Bbuddah… however did not manage to do as well as it was expected. However, the reports on Bbuddah… are very encouraging and the collection is expected to grow with positive word-of-mouth publicity.
In Mumbai, Delhi Belly opened to full houses, at most of the multiplexes. Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines says that, “The morning shows of Delhi Belly were housefull and the other shows also were quite good at about 60 per cent. Bbuddah… on the other hand could only manage an opening of around 20 to 25 per cent. Transformers 3D opened really well and is going great since Wednesday itself.”
He further adds, “Last week’s release Double Dhammal’s collections though dipped slightly from Monday the film has sustained itself during the week and has made money.”
In smaller centres like Orissa too, it was Delhi Belly that witnessed good response. Jeetu Khandelwal of Movie Pioneers says that, “Delhi Belly is doing very well here with almost a 100 per cent opening across 12 screens. Bbuddah… has met with an above average fate of about 60 per cent and is playing at 20 screens. Transformers 3D despite running across only 1 screen is doing well.”
Most distributors agree that Delhi Belly has done well across most multiplexes since it is a youth film; Bbuddah… on the other hand has not garnered such great reports. But it is having an upper hand at most of the singleplexes as well as B and C class centers.
In Rajasthan, Delhi Belly took a decent opening. But it’s still Salman Khan’s Ready that is stealing the show. Sunil Bansal of Yash Raj Jai Pictures mentions that, “Delhi Belly has had an opening of over 50 per cent while Bbuddah… could procure only 20-25 per cent opening which is just about okay. Transformers 3D has also not made a great impact on the viewers but it is Ready which is still doing very well here.
And it’s not just Rajasthan but Bihar too where the audience is still queuing up in scores to watch Ready. Abhay Sinha of Yahfi Films says that, “Ready is still in demand here, but this week’s Delhi Belly has had an opening of around 90 per cent. Bbuddah… is also doing very well here with an opening of around 80 per cent. Transformers 3D has had an opening of around 50 per cent.
In East Punjab, Delhi Belly has again garnered a 100 per cent opening. Surendra Saluja of Lakshya Movies mentions, “Delhi Belly is doing well at both multiplexes and single screens here. The film has adult scenes which may not go down well with the family audience and might make it difficult for the film to sustain. Bbuddah… did not open that well with only 20 to 25 per cent. Transformers 3D is doing very well.”
In CI, Delhi Belly again fared better than Bbuddah… Ashok Choudhury of Neha Movies says, “The opening of Delhi Belly was 60 per cent at the multiplexes but very bad at single screens. Bbuddah… managed an opening of merely 10 to 15 per cent, while, Transformers 3D is doing quite well.”
In Nizam, all three releases have done well at the cinemas. Ravi Machchar of Sahyog Films says, “In Hyderabad, all the three films have opened at 100 per cent. But at other centres, Bbuddah… has managed 50 per cent. The film may pick up over the weekend though.”
