Hollywood has one of these and now India too will be following a similar road. UTV Stars plans to construct an Indian version of Hollywood’s famous Walk of Fame at Bandra Bandstand. The channel has come up with this unique branding idea to honour celebrities who have contributed to the field of entertainment, especially films.
While the Hollywood Walk of Fame consists of more than 2,400 five-pointed brass stars embedded in the sidewalks along 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard in California, the channel has shortlisted around 75 actors to feature on this 200-metre stretch at Bandra. Also, instead of a star, the Indian Walk of Fame will have hand-prints of the celebs.
Bandstand is already a popular destination for Hindi film fans as famous actors like Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham, Farhan Akhtar and Rekha have their sprawling bungalows overlooking the promenade along the sea shore.
Nikhil Gandhi, Business Head, UTV Stars, says, “We wanted to extend our brand to a larger audience through an initiative like this. We will be paying a tribute to veterans of the film industry in the form of this permanent fixture in India.”
This branding activity will be launched in mid-January 2012 and the channel is busy acquiring permissions from the Bandra Residents’ Association and the municipal corporation.
Gandhi says, “This will add to the beautification of the promenade and also bring about a great amount of tourism to the country. We will keep adding names to the list, .as and when.”
