Jism 2, which released last week, registered a sharp drop in collections over the weekend. The film, which did not benefit from word-of-mouth publicity, clocked three-day net box-office collections of approximately Rs 18 crore all-India, including Thursday’s paid previews. The only saving grace is that the film is expected to recover its cost of production and promotion.
In Mumbai, Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines says, “The all-India collections of Jism 2 are Rs 20.5 crore and in Mumbai, Rs 7 crore. The weekend was good but not up to the mark and today there is a drop in its opening numbers.”
According to Sanjay Ghai of Mukta Arts in Delih, “Jism 2, which opened with fabulous numbers on Friday, registered a drop in collections on Saturday. The weekend numbers were close to Rs 3.7 crore in the Delhi-UP circuit.”
Dharam Pal of Paramount Pictures adds that after a great opening on Friday, collections of Jism 2 experienced a sharp drop over the weekend. “The weekend collection here is Rs 2.2 crore,” he says.
According to Sarang Chandak of Shri Rang Films in CP, “Jism 2’s collections are good compared to the budget it was made on. But it’s doubtful whether distributors will recover the cost of the film. The weekend collections were around Rs 98 lakh in CP.”
Vasudev Chachan of Sunny Films in Rajasthan reveals that the weekend collection of Jism 2 in the territory was Rs 1.1 crore. “We expected the film to get better numbers, at least during the weekend,” says a disappointed Chachan.
Jeetu Khandelwal of Movie Pioneers is a tad positive. “The film’s weekend collection in Orissa was Rs 20 lakh. Even though the film has registered a drop, it will wrap the week on a positive note.”
