As we regularly report on these pages, some pretty hefty deals have been struck in the recent past in the satellite rights space. But if you thought that was huge, then this is HUGER! In recent days a multi-film satellite rights acquisition has taken place with a valuation, if media reports are to be believed, of Rs 400 crore. Phew!

But before the trade breaks out into a bhangra about the money coming into the industry, let it be known that this is not a deal between a producer and a channel, but rather two channels themselves – with Star TV acquiring the Colors’ (Viacom18’s) film library.Hmmm… what are the implications of this mega deal for the crucial satellite rights market?
