The Monsters’ Dinner

DIRECTOR: Ramin matin

COUNTRY: TURKEY

Despite its few gut-wrenching scenes and its gross concept, the film is a class apart as it depicts hideous acts with humour.

The story is set in one single night. A couple, J (Ibrahim Selim) and M (Pinar Tore) invites their friends K (Tugrul Tulek) and D (Gizem Erdem) for an overnight dinner and get-together. As the movie unfolds, the traditionally elite characters take you on a surprise ride by indulging in every imaginable act of hedonism. Some scenes tend to make your stomach turn but the director knows when to stop.

Technically, the film is excellent and the dialogue is intensely witty. Characterisation is next to perfect. The background score build tension throughout the film. And, often, you find yourself sitting right alongside the characters; such is the fine work of the director of photography, Deniz Eyüboğlu.

The movie is drenched in unambiguous satire. So go for it only if you have a taste for this type of cinema.
