Will LSD, Shaapit Strike A Chord?

This week, four films, all belonging to different genres, will release at the box office – LSD – Love Sex Aur Dhokha, Shaapit, Lahore and Idiot Box – with distributors expecting LSD and Shaapit to get a decent opening.

Suniel Wadhwa of BSK Entertainment Network predicts, “I think LSD has the potential to do wonders at the box office. That’s because director Dibakar Banerjee has made unique, small-budget films like Khosla Ka Ghosla and Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! LSD has ingredients which connect with the youth. Also, the exam period ends on March 19.”

He adds, “There are quite a few horror films being made nowadays but not many have clicked at the box office, So I’m not expecting much from Shappit. Lahore is aimed at the multiplex audience and I don’t want to comment on Idiot box.”

Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines says, “It’s been a while since we’ve had an interesting mix of movies releasing. Of the four films releasing on Friday, I believe Vikram Bhatt’s Shaapit should do well. Besides being a horror film, Bhatt has a good track record.”

Thadani feels LSD uses “a very unusual concept” and will attract a limited audience. On the other hand, “Lahore is a class film” for a select audience. “This is an audience that likes film festivals. I don’t think Idiot Box has any hope,” he adds.

Sarang Chandak of Shri Rang Films says, “In CP, Vikram Bhatt’s Shappit and Dibakar Banerjee’s LSD should do decent business. LSD has an exceptional title and the story line is also different, whereas the maker of Shaapit has delivered a lot of hits in the horror genre. Lahore is only for the multiplex audience and I am not aware of Idiot Box.”

Sunil Bansal of Yash Raj Jai Pictures accepts, “This week, Shaapit will work at the box office, the music is also good and Vikram Bhatt is a talented filmmaker, especially the horror genre. It is difficult to say how LSD and Lahore will fare as both are very different from each other.”

According to Jeetu Khandelwal of Movie Pioneers, “In Orissa, Shappit has scope to pick up and the promos are also quite encouraging. LSD has a limited audience. It is difficult to comment on Lahore and Idiot Box.”
