3 reasons to not miss Prosenjit Chatterjee’s Uronchondi

Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee produced Uronchondi released today. The trailer had generated a positive buzz among critics, industry people and audiences. Directed by debut director Abhishek Saha, the drama stars Chitra Sen, Sudiptaa Chakraborty, Rajnandini Paul and Amartya Ray in the lead roles. The album has been composed by ace music director Debajyoti Mishra.

  1. Uronchondi boasts of a strong all-woman cast, belonging to three different generations. Veteran actress Chitra Sen’s poignant and powerful performance, as suggested in the trailer, will move you to tears. Her character, Sabitri motivates the younger women to share their sorrows and stand up for themselves. What stands out is the fact that an octogenarian actress leads the cast. Sen had been a part of noteworthy films like Komal Gandhar and Unishe April. Sudiptaa Chakraborty plays a tormented Bihari woman who has faced years of domestic oppression. Her rugged and earthy portrayal of Bindi is compelling. Her dance with complete abandon is something to look forward to. Debutante actress Rajnandini Paul’s, daughter of popular Bengali actress Indrani Paul, portrayal of the vulnerable Minu is heart-wrenching. Visit a theatre near you to witness the coming together of such powerful performances. Yay, women power!

  2. Uronchondi is being touted as Bengali cinema’s first road film. The plot follows the stories of different individuals who embark on a physical and metaphorical journey towards freedom, joy and independence away from the atrocities of life. The green fields, golden patches of barren land and canopied roads carry rustic charm. Set against rural backdrops, the genre-defining film was shot in rural nooks of West Bengal over a span of only 13 days. A young driver named Chotu played by Ray acts as a bridge and a fulcrum in their journey. Uronchondi may be hailed as Bengali cinema’s Thelma & Louise, the first women centric road film of Hollywood.

  3. Prosenjit Chatterjee marks his return as a producer with Uronchondi under his banner Nideas Creations and Productions Pvt Ltd. He had initially produced critically acclaimed films like Teen Yaari Katha, Bapi Bari Jaa and Shankhachil among others in the past. He had also produced telefilms and daily soaps for Bengali channels. With Bumbada, as he is fondly referred to, at the helm of the content-driven project, we cannot contain our excitement.
