The journey for Aaj Ghawre Bairey, Aparna Sen’s directorial venture, began today. The film will mark her return to Bengali cinema after the 2015 musical romance, Arshinagar. As the name suggests, the film will be based on Rabindranath Tagore’s 1916 novel, Ghare Baire and will be a modern take on it. Satyajit Ray had adapted the novel into a film in 1984.
It will revolve around a complex love triangle among the protagonists - Nikhilesh, Sandip and Brinda. Anirban Bhattacharya, Jisshu Sengupta and Tuhina Das will lead the cast. The film also has Sreenanda Shankar and Anjan Dutt in pivotal roles.
In her words, Sen conceived the notion of the film following the assassination of journalist Gauri Lankesh last year. Following the mahurat, the film is set to go on floors in latter half of September and will be shot in parts of Kolkata and Bolpur among other places. Aaj Ghawre Bairey will be cinematographed by Soumik Haldar. Mahendra Soni and Shrikant Mohta will produce the romantic-drama under the banner of Shree Venkatesh Films.
