The singer reveals a few facets to his personality as he strays outside the romantic genre
Armaan Malik has always charmed his listeners with his love songs. Malik has now served up some pop with his brilliant vocals in his latest songs, Hare Krishna Hare Ram from Commando 2, and his single Aaja na Ferrari mein.
Malik was approached by music directors Gourav-Roshin, and claims he was not aware that this song was a recreation of Hare Krishna Hare Ram from Bhool Bhulaiyaa. On listening to the song for the first time, he says, “I heard the first verse of the song and it was very different but when I heard the song some more, I was, like, ‘Wow!’. They have merged the hook line so well with the verse. I really like the way they gave this song a whole new avatar.”
The singer reveals that recording the song was a tad daunting since it was the recreated version of a popular track. “I felt some pressure because I had to live up to expectations. I sang the song in a fresh, new style. There are just two ways to recreate a song, that is, either go completely different or maintain the essence of the old song. I think they have maintained the essence of the original yet they have a new approach to music. If you listen to the chorus, they sing ‘Hare’ followed by a pause. That’s different from the original song.”
Malik says that remixing an old song is a tricky job. “You can either go wrong or you can make a good remixed version. Some people like the new version while others prefer the old version of the song. When we recreate a song, we have to accept the fact that some people will still love the original version. I think it’s okay since it’s a trend that’s working well and everyone is jumping on to the bandwagon.”
The talented vocalist is overwhelmed with the reviews he’s received for the song. “Many people are appreciating the way I have changed my voice and tone for this song. They have heard me singing romantic songs before, so this was a change for them.”
About his new single Aaja na Ferrari mein, whose music video features Malik in a flirtatious avatar, he remarks, “It’s a very different song for me since people have not seen the other side of me. I wanted to bring that out. I also feature in the music video and will be seen grooving and acting. It’s very exciting and it’s a pop single. It is not a mushy love song for Valentine’s; it has a twist. The lyrics are also quirky, which brings out my flirtatious side.”
He says his single is his dream project and it ‘will change the scenario of the music industry’. “I am very excited about this single. My aim has always been to put India on the global map. In the West, every singer is the voice and face of the song but in Bollywood every singer is behind the scenes and they are just the voice of the actors. With this album, I will put singers at the forefront of the industry.”
