His interest in singing spiked when he heard AR Rahman’s Dil se and now, nine years later, Benny Dayal has become one of the most sought-after singers in Bollywood. Discovered by Rahman himself, Dayal has crooned several chartbusters not only for the maestro but for several other composers as well. From Pappu can’t dance saala to Badtameez dil, Bang bang, ABCD, Daru desi and many more, the singer has expanded his reach to other languages such as Tamil, Punjabi, Malayalam, Kannada, Bangla and Marathi.
Although Dayal has been flooded with film offers, he prefers not to reveal details about them right now. But the multi-lingual singer believes in exploring different platforms and has been quite active in the film space as well as the non-film space. He also has a few singles lined up for release and is working on their music videos. “I am working on a few singles and have explored different genres like ballads and indie-pop mix. They are in Hindi and Tamil. I believe that a song’s language doesn’t matter. If listeners like the music, then the song is a hit,” says Dayal.
Exploring the digital medium, Dayal has also become part of India’s first and one-of-its-kind singing contest, Close-Up Websingers, whose quest is to find Bollywood’s Singing Jodi. The contest has been initiated by the multi-channel network #Fame. The Uff singer will be mentoring the participants along with Pritam.
“The concept of this initiative is fresh and innovative. It is not like your regular singing reality TV show. Here, every upcoming singer across the world gets an opportunity to showcase their talent on the digital platform. They ultimately get a global reach as the videos are promoted on social media. In fact, most youngsters these days upload their music videos on YouTube, and Websinger gives them an opportunity to be judged. Also they get an opportunity to work with some renowned Bollywood composers and musicians. The hunt is divided into five rounds and the participants will be mentored and groomed by me, Pritam, Raghu Dixit, Aditi Singh Sharma and Monali Thakur,” Dayal reveals.
With the concert season kicking off, Dayal has been travelling across cities, performing chartbusters along with his band Funktuation.
