The list of regional films was announced by the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2018 recently with several critically-acclaimed movies being selected for screening. And in the list, we spotted Aditya Vikram Sengupta’s Jonaki in the Bengali section. What makes this film interesting is the fact that it is Jim Sarbh's Bengali debut. The fact his film has made it to such a prestigious film festival is huge! Talking about the film, let us tell you that Jonaki will revolve around an 80-year-old woman who remembers those people who were closest to her as she searches for love in a world she is about to leave behind. The film stars the late veteran Bengali actress Lolita Chatterjee with Jim Sarbh playing her lover in ther movie. Interestingly, even though he plays her lover, Jim doesn’t have any lines in Jonaki. As he mentioned to a leading daily, "For me, it wasn’t really a Bengali movie. It was more a silent experimental dreamscape film because I didn’t have any lines. I guess I don’t really think of cinema in terms of their regional location, it is more about the content and quality."
But it's not onw, but two of his films that will go to the film festival. Padmaavat, in which Jim plays Malik Kafur, will also be screened at IFFM 2018. As the actor added, "I used to live in Sydney when I was a kid, so I am quite excited that two films that I feature in are screening at the festival. I hope I get a chance to go." The festival is being held from August 18-22., so stay tuned to Box Office India as we get you all the updates from the world of Bollywood and Bengali right here.
