Freewheeling with Neha Kakkar, who has crooned the title track of Badrinath Ki Dulhania
She is popularly called the ‘Expression Queen’, but that’s not all Neha Kakkar is known for. Her song videos are kicking up a storm on YouTube, whether playbacks or unplugged versions. Kakkar talks to us about bagging the title track of Badrinath Ki Dulhania and an interesting upcoming project.
On bagging the Badrinath Ki Dulhania title track, she says, “I have been associated with Dharma for quite some time. This dates back to my first songs with them, Kar gayi chul and Kala chashma, both of which became instant hits. The moment I heard this tune, I fell in love with it because it was such a cool song. They also told me that this song would feature Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan and I love the chemistry between them. I love Alia so much that I love giving my vocals to her.
The singer reveals that she was told it was a Holi song and that it would be the title song of the film. “It was an awesome experience working on it. Tanishq Bagchi has done the music and he always does a great job. I love his music and I am a huge fan of his Banno tera swagger. When I saw the video, I was very happy with how it had turned out,” she says.
Kakkar has bagged some A-list projects and her songs have become party anthems. “It is a mixture of hard work, talent and good luck. People tell me that I put a lot into my songs and I add my own extra touch. I always add the ‘Neha Kakkar flavour’ to them.”
On the music directors she wants to work with, Kakkar says, “A R Rahman, Pritam Da and Amit Trivedi. I have worked with Pritam Da in Cocktail for the song Second hand jawaani, but I would love to work with him in future as well.” She adds that “had there been a female version of Channa mereya, I would have loved to sing it”.
“My songs, Maahi ve and Kaala chashma were both recreated but people loved them immensely,” says Kakkar, touching on the sensitive topic of recreating old songs. “One has to be careful while recreating them. If they aren’t done well, people will not accept them.”
Before she signs off, the songstress lets us in on a secret. “I will be singing the female version of Tu cheez badi hain mast mast in the film Machine. The male version will be sung by Udit Narayan. It will be featured on Mustafa and Kiara Advani.”
