What’s It All About?
In its 10th year, the Seattle South Asian Film Festival (SSAFF) will explore the theme of ‘Coming Home’ featuring the transition from one part of the world to another that is filled with anticipation, conflict, inherent desire and an incessant quest to find a place called home.
The 12-day-festival produced by the foundation Tasveer will take place across five cities – Seattle, Redmond, Bothell, Bellevue and Renton – and will feature more than 40 feature-length, short narrative and documentary films. SSAFF aims to showcase thought-provoking, independent films that shed light on women’s issues, human rights, LGBT issues, politics and art from South Asia and its diaspora. The 10th anniversary festival will include a special focus on films from Sri Lanka.
The 10th edition will feature a long list of Indian films including Nachom-ia Kumpasar, which has also been shortlisted to compete at other major film festivals such as CinemaFest 2015 in Mexico and the Chicago Asian Film Festival. It was also selected as an opening film at the Brasov International Film Festival. Nachom-ia Kumpasar is a Konkani musical film made as a tribute to the unsung musicians of Goa. The film had bagged three honours at the 62nd National Film Awards in India with two awards and one special mention.
